KentPresents is the incredible brainchild of co-founders Donna and Ben Rosen. This three-day event is in its fourth year of bringing prominent speakers and guests from around the country to share ideas and thoughts on a multitude of important topics. Read on for our quick Q+A with the Rosens on everything you need to know about KentPresents!

Do you know what we love more than one cool store in a picturesque town? A cluster of cool stores and businesses! The cluster we speak of is Kent Barns, a complex of industrial-barn style buildings, both modern and rustic, located on North Main Street in Kent. We decided to have the complete Kent Barns experience and spend the afternoon strolling, shopping, and eating at the fab new restaurant, Swyft!

Destination shoppers – this one is for you!

We have long wanted to master “the cheese board.” You know, the kind of thing you see posted on Instagram that looks like a still life work of art. With the holidays coming and both of us hosting gatherings at our homes, we thought we’d visit the experts, 109 Cheese & Wine in Ridgefield, and ask them to teach us some cheese board skills. They also have a fabulous cheese market in Kent.

We picked up a bunch of great tips, plus a couple of great bottles of wine! Here’s how to put together a cheese board to impress your friends!

We were long overdue for an artsy afternoon and felt it was high time we stopped by the W. David Herman Gallery in Kent. We’ve admired those shimmering stainless steel sculptures from afar for long enough (the gallery is a few doors down from SoDelicious bakery). It was time to pay the artist and gallery director, David and Eileen Herman a visit.

Owned by a former Team USA Lumberjill, Shannon Strong has opened Strong Core Wellness Center in Kent, to offer clients a one-stop location to rehabilitate, restore, and strengthen their core. We went along to take a morning group fitness class, and to meet Shannon, the woman who Sylvester Stallone didn’t want to go up against on the Late Show with David Letterman (more on that later)!

Following our ratio of one fitness post for every three food posts, today we’re telling you all about our visit to W. Rhythm Fitness & Wellness in Kent. “Work hard, play hard” is our motto alongside, “Workout so you can eat what you want!” Variety is the key to any good fitness program and W. Rhythm Fitness has that covered.

Restaurant: Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant, 53 Main Street, Kent, Connecticut

When you are hankering for: New American, eclectic, seasonal, comforting food. A restaurant steeped in history (family run and owned since 1973) serving up some classic favorites plus specialties that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else around here. When you want to sit by the fire and have the best Caesar salad or filet au poivre made for you tableside. Also, for those who like to choose from an extensive wine list (28 pages and they have made the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence every year since 1992). The Fife ‘n Drum is a beloved Kent institution. The ambiance feels like a hug from a loved one – it’s so darn cozy. The perfect place to go after an afternoon of shopping in Kent on a cold, frosty day! We loved every moment of our 20-course meal…

Nancy Novogrod has had an impressive career as an editor in the magazine world. First, as Editor-in-Chief of House & Garden, and then for twenty years as Editor-in-Chief of Travel + Leisure magazine. The places she must have gone, done, seen!

Nancy and her husband split their time between New York and Kent…which is a good thing because we most certainly wanted to visit the home of somebody so well traveled! We’re willing to guess that being the EIC of Travel + Leisure would involve a fair bit of world commuting.

Also, we had questions…

Lora thinks it’s a bit ludicrous that I come from Scotland (birthplace of golf) and have never, ever golfed. I’ve played miniature golf….so no, no experience whatsoever.

In an effort to encourage me to check it out (she really wants a female golfing friend) she partnered us up with a very cool women’s golf clothing company, Sport Haley and arranged a shoot at the unbelievably gorgeous Bull’s Bridge Golf Club.
