Day Tripping in Old Saybrook

Hey, day-trippers! We’re at it again, finding the best things to do in 1 day in the most charming of CT towns…this time we’re Day Tripping in Old Saybrook.

Don’t forget, scroll to the bottom to get our Day Tripping in Old Saybrook Google Map. Just download and go!

Play a round at…

Fenwick Golf Course

Fenwick Golf Course is a lovely spot to start your day in Old Saybrook, or Fenwick to be exact (a borough of Old Saybrook). Whether you play or not, do take a drive over the bridge to check out this beautiful gem. Fenwick population: 52 (2000 census).

Katharine Hepburn had a stunner of a home in Fenwick, which happens to abut on to the golf course. So as you can imagine, this is one gorgeous track.

Did you know it’s the oldest public course in Connecticut? It sits right on Long Island Sound and the CT River with amazing views of both. They have a 9-hole golf course with a 5-hole practice course for adults and kids that are both open year round, weather permitting.

Go shopping…

Saybrook Home Apparel

We always make a point of stopping by when we’re in the area! Saybrook Home Apparel offers a large range of fabulous clothing for women, men, and kids! Oh, and they offer a wide selection of shoes, jewelry, and accessories. We ❤️!

Saybrook Home wants to help you live your best life! They do that by offering the best customer service (it only takes one visit to feel like part of the family…go see Donna!). Besides finding stylish clothes, you can also satisfy your home decor desires by crossing the driveway and entering their home furnishings world!

You’ll find the highest quality indoor and outdoor furniture, decor, rugs, window treatments, and then some!

Treat yourself to something sweet…

Dagmar’s Desserts

Dagmar’s Desserts is famous for their scones and offer more than 10 different varieties. Their most popular cakes are flourless chocolate cake, key lime pie, and apple strudel. Prepare for the smell of heaven to hit you moments before you walk through the door.

You can taste the ingredients because their treats are made with fruits that are in season. Peach and plum galettes, strawberry sponge rolls, pear Frangipane, and fresh fruit tarts.  Not overly sweet, but OMG mind-blowing delish!

They also make wedding cakes and customized birthday and celebration cakes.

With Dagmar being from Bavaria, you’ll also find some German and Austrian specialties such as authentic apple strudel, Stollen, Black Forest Tortes, and Linzer cookies, to name a few.

Chill out and relax a little…

KUR Cryotherapy and Recovery Spa

Don’t you love how we day trip? Yes, it’s time to do some concentrated relaxing and recovering from your strenuous day so far. 😉

Kur Cryotherapy & Recovery Spa is the only cryo spot along I95 from Norwalk to Cranston. They have something for everyone! If you can’t do a whole body session, they have a spot treatment unit. If you hate cold, they have hot. We dabbled in a bit of everything!

NormaTec Recovery – pulse compression technology helping to move fluid and metabolites out of our limbs

Kur offers natural ways to decrease pain and inflammation, get a burst of energy and a good nights sleep, or the chance just to try something new! Our visit was quick and efficient and didn’t take a lot of time out of our day tripping. This is how we like to relax! Instant relief. Ahhh.

Like blood pressure cuff socks…surprisingly rejuvenating!

Add a helping of culture…

Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (The Kate)

The Kate is celebrating their 10th year this September! The beautifully restored theater located in a historic building (circa 1911) brings more than 40,000 people together each year for a variety of cultural and performing arts programs. In addition to music, theater, dance, film, simulcasts of the Met Opera, and comedy, The Kate offers arts education programs for children and youth during the school year and in the summer months.

Katharine Hepburn was a goddess. To visit The Kate was a big thrill because they have a museum space dedicated to her with memorabilia and remembrances of her life in Old Saybrook and as a major figure in film and theater.

Spend the night!

The Deacon & James Pharmacy B&B and Caffe Marche

The Deacon and James Pharmacy Bed and Breakfast are two of the highest rated B+Bs in the country, and are located side by side on Main Street, just across from The Kate!

Whichever B+B you choose (The Deacon, built in 1746, is a modern quaint NE Inn, and The Pharmacy is more boutique-contemporary-luxury), prepare to have an exceptional experience.

One of 5 unique rooms in The Deacon, we particularly loved The Treetop.

James Pharmacy is a historic treasure and is nationally known for three women who are associated with it: Anna James – the first African American woman pharmacist from Connecticut; Ann Petry – the first African American to sell more than a million copies of a book she wrote, and; Katherine Hepburn – Hollywood Royalty.

Also, check out the Caffe Marche, housed within the inn. It’s a thing of beauty and serves the most incredible gelato!

Afternoon tea is served in The Deacon. Tea party, anyone?

Happy day tripping, Unlockers!
