Restaurant: Chef’s Door, Watertown

When you are hankering for: Farm fresh food and a craft cocktail!

Occasion: Chef’s Door just opened a few weeks ago and Chef Chris Bruno invited us over for lunch. Also, we’re celebrating that it’s finally getting warm out!

You’ll find Chef’s Door at 544 Straits Turnpike in Watertown.

The menu

The menu (lunch and dinner) is both traditional and creative American. It’s a restaurant where somebody who wants a burger and fries and another who wants roasted half-duck will be happy. Salad/burger/appetizer lovers and gluten-free friends will also be most pleased! In fact, everything but the pasta can be made gluten-free.

The waitstaff have quick access to the ingredients of every single item on the menu – go ahead – test them!

Sign us up, here we come!

Chef’s Door is a full service restaurant featuring farm fresh vegetables sourced locally during warmer seasons, fresh fish flown in from as far as Hawaii, along with catches from the coast of New England. Meats are sourced from multiple sources around the U.S, featuring natural products raised humanely and free of hormones and drugs.

They provide full table service, a full bar featuring craft spirits, local beers, and a moderately priced wine list with high-quality offerings.

Chef’s doors!

We ate…

Tuna Carpaccio – we love a good artistic plating
Grilled Manchego Cheese – we’re still dreaming about it
Crispy Eggplant Milanaise – the thinnest sliced, most delicious thing ever

and ate…

Maine organic salmon with kumquat grape salad
Lamb Tagine and rice made with preserved lemons

Cocktails, always

The Chef’s Margarita – lime juice freshly squeezed makes all the difference!

Dessert, always

Coconut custard with a graham cracker hazelnut crust topped with mascarpone whipped cream!

Lastly, dessert. Just when we didn’t think we could fit anything else in. This was a no regrets dessert if ever we’ve had one! Like the beach and a sunny day in our mouth. All desserts are made in-house.

Chef/Owner Chris Bruno

Since he was 24 years old, Chef-Owner Chris Bruno has owned four very successful restaurants – Fiddler’s and Chris’ American Restaurant in Brookfield, Village Social in Mt. Kisco, NY, and Foundry Kitchen & Tavern in Sandy Hook.

Chef Chris’ style is to take 4 or 5 pristine ingredients and put them together to allow the flavors to shine through and speak for themselves. Chef’s Door uses patience in their cooking, and create their sauces by reduction rather than using flour or other additives.

The vibe

We love the quaint, comfortable, casual feel, with a modern energetic vibe. The walls are decorated with repurposed doors, pics of local history and from a bygone era. Lots to feast your eyes on!
