When Stew Leonard’s invites you to spend a morning in their Danbury store, getting hands-on and going behind the scenes, you squeal, then you clear your schedule. At least that’s what we did! Long-time fans of Stew’s (the world’s largest dairy store) we couldn’t wait to discover what makes their operation tick….and to make cinnamon rolls, mozzarella cheese, dance with bananas, toss pizzas, kiss a monkfish, and of course, visit with Clover the cow.

And now for something completely different! Herbal remedies, paranormal activities, life stories, vortexes, and special tonic shots…this post has it all.

Velya Jancz-Urban (mom, historian) and Ehris Urban (daughter, herbalist) form “Grounded Goodwife,” a business based out of their Woodbury 1770s colonial farmhouse home, offering hands-on unique herbal workshops & presentations. Classes begin with a tour of the home the family purchased in 2011, which is like taking a step back in time to colonial days. The Urban family and their 247-year-old home have many a tale to tell and lessons to teach…

We learned so much during our visit to ORGÁNACHS FARM TO SKIN in Westport. The high-performing, natural luxury skincare boutique opened last year and is the dream and vision of Siobhan McKinley. Leaving behind her position as a cosmetic executive in the conventional beauty industry, she opened ORGÁNACHS, selling only the best, natural and organic brands in skincare.

Hello, my name is Lora and I’ve got “Red Rock Fever”. Wait, what? Many people develop this “condition” after visiting Sedona for the first time. Symptoms include a lump in the throat and teary eyes when it’s time to go home.

This magical Arizona town had been on my bucket list for years, so the hubs and I planned a trip for some hiking fun. If you haven’t been, maybe you’ll understand why I had to wipe those tears away after you see the photos below…

“There’s something wonderfully healing in Arizona air.” ~Zane Grey, The Call of the Canyon, 1924

Billy Blanks Jr. had Paula Abdul as a mentor, is a self-taught accomplished dancer and entertainer, his parents are famous for creating one of our favorite workouts from the 90s, Tae Bo, and he was recently appointed the role of Artistic Director of the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk!

We caught up with Billy for a private Dance It Out® (DIO) session – his own fitness-based dance program that you may have seen when he picked up a deal on Shark Tank. You may have also caught DIO® on Dr. Oz, Ellen, the Meredith Vieira Show, The View, ABC, NBC, FOX, The Hallmark Channel, So You Think You Can Dance, and now….Unlocking Connecticut!

We just had the best little adventure in Woodbury, CT. In the space of about 4.5 hours, we climbed to the top of an 80-foot structure with a ridiculous view (higher than the tree tops). Then we drove less than a mile to get to our friend Cathy B’s new store, which is so exciting for us Litchfield County lovers of good fashion. Culminating with, you guessed it, food and a light afternoon beverage, at El Camión. Fresh tacos al fresco with a Mexican beer on a sunny Saturday afternoon, ahh. Watch out for many more of these day trip adventures!

Thanks to Lora’s job working for Theatre Projects, we were tipped off to a very exciting new theater just opening in Norwalk, the Wall Street Theater. We went along for a sneak peek to see it just weeks away from its grand opening performance, “8” A NIGHT WITH BROADWAY’S BEST.

We spoke to three key players in getting this amazing renovation and opening off the ground; from dream to reality: Frank Farricker of Lockwood and Mead, the Developer; Suzanne Cahill, the President and Chairperson of the Board; and Billy Blanks, Jr., the Artistic Director. We had questions!

In this crazy overloaded world we live in, we could probably all use a visit to Valley Spirit Cooperative & Wellness Center in Washington Depot. This is definitely a place for some good self-care. The studio is beautiful, the people welcoming, and the class and therapy offerings are diverse. Classes include meditation, Tai Chi & Qi Gong, and yoga, and therapy options include Chinese medical massages, acupuncture, cupping, and organic facials.

Valley Spirit opened last year and we’ve been eyeing it up on the occasions we’ve passed it. After we realized it wasn’t a liquor store, we were extra intrigued and couldn’t wait to go, “unlock” ’em!

We had the pleasure of taking a break during our workday and chatting with Broadway legend, Betty Buckley. An award-winning career that has encompassed TV, film, stage and concert work around the globe, Betty is probably best known as the quintessential musical theater actress.

This talented Tony Award winner will be singing songs from her recently released live double album, Story Songs, in a couple of upcoming shows at the Wall Street Theater in Norwalk (and look out for our exclusive Wall Street Theater blog post coming this week!). Her album is a collection of music from all genres, from theater to folk, to Top 40.

Olley Court, located on Main Street in Ridgefield, is one small-but-mighty, utterly sumptuous boutique! Selling home decor, clothing, jewelry, art, gifts, and interior design services – you can cancel your round-the-world trip, they’ve found all of the most exquisite objects from around the globe for you! We spent the morning with store owners and interior designers Susan Buzaid and Robin Curnan, discovering everything there is to know about Olley Court.
