March is the month for St. Patrick’s Day specials and delicious new menu items in restaurants. We did a mini tasting tour for you guys (I know…we take this job very seriously) and popped into a few of Litchfield County’s awesome eateries to find out, what’s for dinner?! And if you like this idea, we’ll do it again soon…we’re thinking April – What’s for dinner? Click on the headers for more details, hours, and all that jazz.
Comment below – what’s your fave LC restaurant? (PS – that luscious dish in our banner is from The Iron Rail in New Milford)
First things first, a good cuppa coffee and a freshly baked pastry. Paden and his coworkers will be brewing up a Blarney Kiss latte at Cafe 202 this St. Patrick’s season. A latte, with Irish creme syrup and spiced brown sugar, YUM. Relax and enjoy in their eclectic and comfortable cafe area, or sip while you browse the many interesting antiques and vintage finds in the Housatonic Trading Co, where Cafe 202 is located. We love the coffee crowd vibe here!
The Main Street Grill in Watertown promises to keep your group happy with its varied New American menu. There’s something interesting for every appetite. We tried the Quinoa Peppers, the Chicken Cordon Bleu, the Soy Ginger Glazed Salmon AND the Coconut Curry Mussels. We are piggies!
Your “Paleo” friend, “veggie” friend, and “steak” friend can all be very satisfied here.
The Main Street Grill is also known for its impressive craft cocktail program. Small production spirits, and freshly squeezed juices are mixed in just the right way. We can vouch for these too. So good! We recommend the “I Hate Gin” cocktail….we loved it!
Head to the Iron Rail in New Milford for some traditional corned beef and cabbage (see the pic in our header above for this post!) or, if you like your corned beef with a twist, you have to try the Reuben wontons! Chef Erin Toolan came up with this delicious idea, and we salute her for it!
Round out your meal with a pint of Guinness for the true Irish vibe, or pick one of their other 10 rotating craft beers on tap.
The Iron Rail is a family run, family-friendly restaurant serving comfort classics with a twist.
Besides their usual awesome menu (check out that rack of lamb and raw bar platter!), 1TwentyTwo will be serving up some traditional Irish entrees served up with some freshly baked Irish soda bread. They’ll be offering split pea and ham soup, traditional corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, and don’t forget to order dessert – bittersweet Irish chocolate whiskey cake, or Irish coffee cake!
Wet your whistle while you’re there with a special sparkling shamrock cocktail or lucky charm martini!
Enjoy it all in the main dining room with a cozy fireplace, the sunroom, or in the bar/lounge.
Brand new this month, @the Corner will be offering beer boards. Sliders and flights –a match made in heaven! Just as we don’t always want to commit to one craft beer, we don’t always want a full entrée. The customers asked, and @ the Corner listened! Pick your beers (they serve 20 different craft beers) then pick your perfect appetizer pairing. For March, we recommend the Reuben Sliders!
Enjoy local band Stache, while you eat, drink, and be merry on St. Patty’s eve…AND you can grab a growler of your fave tap beer to-go at the end of the night. How great is that? Fun times!
Lots going on at the Saltwater Grille in the month of March. In fact, lots going on all the time over there; check out their calendar of entertainment here.
If drinking a green beverage on St. Patty’s day is your tradition, Saltwater Grille has 4 for you to choose from (and yes, we tried them all, thank you very much). The Irish Julep (hello, adult milkshake), The Shamrock Shaker Martini, The Kiss Me I’m Irish, and The Shamrock Shaken Up!
Gerst Light will be playing on St. Patty’s Day and the happy hour/bar special will be 3 Reuben sliders – sauerkraut, cheese, and corned beef on slider buns. Entrees will include a Guinness beef stew with mashed potatoes, plus the traditional corned beef and cabbage!
Want to put your PJs on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day from the comfort of your couch? Grab some supplies from NeJaime’s first. They are perfect for all of your holiday libations!
They offer an incredible selection of imported and domestic beer with a focus on craft brews. Their spirit selection is unmatched with an extensive selection of single malt scotch, cognac and specialty spirits liqueurs, bourbons, tequilas and more.
Visit them in New Milford in the Stop & Shop plaza or New Milford Spirit Shop at 16 Prospect Hill Road, or even 483 Main St, Watertown, CT. Tell John we sent you!
