Despite being in the final throes of launching our new site, we made sure we had time to see at least one show during #NYFW! It’s our Super Bowl and Oscars all rolled into one, and we always love our NYC fashionista trips!

Colour, by South African media personality, Nandi Madida has created a ready to wear label that celebrates the colorful world we live in. The South African clothing brand inspires diversity through the aesthetic of its magical suits, which make a woman feel powerful, bold, and confident. Inspired by the power suit, Colour celebrates all women.

That’s what the invite said, and after some gentle stalking of Nandi’s Instagram (1.2M followers!), we were sold, and we wanted to see her first NYFW fashion show!

We recently had the opportunity to pop over the state line to visit Daryl’s House, a super duper live music venue and restaurant in Pawling, New York. Not only did we get to sample some of the new dishes they recently added to their menu, we got to sit with DARYL HALL!! We asked him a bunch of questions and ate a lot of good food. Thank you rockstar gods for granting us this O.M.G. life-moment.

Ahh, New York Fashion Week. What’s more fun than a train ride to the city? Watching fabulous shows and presentations where we just drool and daydream about owning just one piece from each collection is! Here’s a recap of some of our fun at NYFW this season…

Bethany Watson is a co-host on the extremely popular iHeartRADIO “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” which has millions of listeners tuning in every day. Bethany is also a kindred spirit. She is never without a coffee in hand…and if she is, then there’s a cocktail in its place. She keeps us up-to-date with the news and what’s trending, and can be (self-admittedly) totally nerdy (she does a piece on the morning show called Hip Hop Clarinet).

Lora knew Bethany from a previous photoshoot, so we said, “Hey Bethany, we’re going to be in the city, can we come visit you at the studio and ask you a bunch of random questions?” to which she replied, “Suuuuure, come on over!” She’s super nice like that.

It had been much too long since our last “getaway,” so we decided on a quick and easy overnight stay and shopping trip to NYC. Don’t get us wrong, a trip to Paris would be lovely, but who has that kind of vacation time? Not us. We booked a night at the fantastique Hotel Elyseé located on East 54th Street between Park and Madison Avenue, i.e. luxury shopping central!

Come, we’ll show you around, and fill you in on our NYC adventure that includes being surrounded by thousands of police officers and a close encounter with Kathie Lee and Hoda…

When our new gal pal Gina Duckworth cordially invited us to the Next Artists Fashion Week Beauty Lounge (spearheaded by Gina and her team) we cordially replied, “YES, PLEASE!!” An afternoon of complimentary services provided by the Next Artists team (best in the biz) including makeup, manicures, cryo facials, massages, and so much more, along with the most amazing goodie bags – well, do you know us?!

While we were in the city for NYFW, we scheduled an appointment to meet our Litchfield County friend Susan Haberman at the Worth New York showroom. Susan is an independent stylist for Worth, a company that has a strong belief in empowering the stylists that work for them, and the woman who buy their clothes.

We certainly felt on top of the world while we were there, trying on outfit after outfit! The view of Central Park from the 24th floor at 730 5th Avenue is incredible. The flagship penthouse showroom once belonged to Imelda Marcos – just one of the many floors she needed to house her shoe collection! So yes, quite a heavenly experience…read on!

Dead of Summer actress Amber Coney and The Flash actress Violett Beane (Jesse “Quick” Wells) were sitting a few seats down from us at the Fashion Palette show during NYFW – so naturally, we threw some popcorn at them and loudly whispered, “Pssst, you guys, can we do a quick interview and photo shoot after the show??” – to which they agreed. Ok, so we actually went through their super lovely agent, Nilda Carrazana who helped us all connect after the buzz of seeing our first swimwear collection (it was a first for us all).

Thankfully swimwear season is almost behind us here in LC (we’ve already switched over to comfort eating), but it was very much “now” at the Fashion Palette New York’s Australian Swim/Resort wear runway show! Nine different Australian designers showed off their SS17 collections at Pier 59.
